The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, giving structure, depth and spicy complexity. After fermentation the wine ages in oak barrels, a proportion of them new, to balance power with finesse. The bouquet shows cassis, blackcurrant and plum alongside cedar, graphite, violets and sweet spice. On the palate Château Batailley is powerful and dense yet retains freshness, with firm ripe tannins and impressive length – a textbook Pauillac to enjoy with entrecôte, lamb or game dishes.
