Chapoutier Saint Joseph rouge Les Granits: The essence of true craftsmanship
M. Chapoutier Saint-Joseph Rouge Les Granits comes from a steep single vineyard planted with very old syrah vines rooted directly in bare granite. Biodynamic farming and hand-harvesting result in tiny yields and great aromatic intensity. The bouquet shows blackberry, blackcurrant and dark plum with violets, pepper, graphite and smoky notes. On the palate Les Granits is powerful, firmly structured yet silky, with tightly woven ripe tannins and pronounced mineral tension. The long, spicy and slightly salty finish marks it out as one of the most characterful syrahs of the appellation. It is a superb partner for beef, lamb, game, slow-cooked stews and mature hard cheeses.
