Château Rauzan Gassies
At Château Rauzan Gassies in Margaux, within the Médoc, the aristocratic face of Bordeaux’s Left Bank comes into focus. Its history reaches back to the Chevalier de Rauzan in the seventeenth century; in 1855 the estate was ranked Deuxième Grand Cru Classé.Around 30 hectares of vines occupy two of the appellation’s celebrated rises, a patchwork of deep gravel, sand and subtle clay. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the backbone, joined by Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc in a style where structure meets the supple definition of Margaux.
Since 1946 the Quié family has guided the property, balancing Grand Cru discipline with careful renewal. Rauzan Gassies speaks of rank, but never rank alone: its true language is written in drainage, vine density, ripeness and the patient vineyard work that turns classified heritage into living wine.
