Château Roc de Cambes
With Château Roc de Cambes in Bourg, in the Côtes de Bourg appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, the Mitjavile family story moves outside expected hierarchies. François Mitjavile acquired the estate in 1988; at the time, vineyard, cellar and the historic château all required serious renewal.The vines grow on slopes above the Gironde, rooted in limestone and clay soils where exposure brings both ripeness and tension. Merlot leads, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc; old vines, careful picking and a distinctive cellar rhythm shape the estate’s voice.
Roc de Cambes proves that Bordeaux greatness is not created by classification alone. Its identity is singular: late physiological maturity, precise élevage, sensitive oak handling and a calm intensity that gives the Côtes de Bourg an almost rebellious nobility.
