For connoisseurs: Bouchot Pouilly Fumé Vin Orange from Val de Loire
Domaine du Bouchot Pouilly-Fumé Vin Orange is a macerated Sauvignon Blanc from biodynamically farmed vineyards around Saint-Andelain in the Loire valley. The grapes ferment on their skins, which gives the wine its deep colour, gentle tannins and strikingly complex aromas. On the nose there are notes of dried citrus, orange zest, herbal tea, honey, stone fruit and a touch of spice. The palate is powerful and structured, with a firm, grippy texture, flavours of candied orange peel, ripe stone fruit and pronounced salty minerality. Lively acidity supports the wine without masking the fine phenolic grip. The finish is long and dry, marked by herbs, citrus and a distinctive flinty character. An individualistic orange wine that pairs beautifully with mature cheeses, spiced vegetable dishes or Eastern Mediterranean cuisine.
