| Château Calon Ségur is a historic estate in Saint-Estèphe and classified as a 3rd Growth in the 1855 ranking. Its roughly 50 hectares of vines lie on deep gravel with patches of clay and limestone, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot plus Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. According to the château the grapes are hand-picked, carefully sorted and vinified plot by plot before ageing in French oak barrels. The bouquet shows blackcurrant, dark cherry and blackberry with notes of violet, cedar and subtle herbal spice. On the palate Calon Ségur is full-bodied and firmly structured yet silky, with ripe tannins, cool freshness and a very long finish – a refined, ageworthy Saint-Estèphe. | |
