Frank Phélan
In St.Estephe, Frank Phélan has spoken since 1986 as the second wine of Château Phélan Ségur, carrying the name of Bernard Phélan’s son. It is built from a 15-hectare core of older vines, complemented by younger parcels, on clay-and-gravel hillocks and plateaux that look toward the Gironde.
The blend follows Médoc grammar—Cabernet Sauvignon for spine, Merlot for contour—vinified with the same quiet discipline as the grand vin. Elevage is deliberately nuanced: around 14 months in used French oak (mostly one- and two-wine barrels) to polish structure without masking origin.
Rather than a simplified Bordeaux, it offers an intimate angle on Saint-Estèphe: firm architecture, precise texture and a sense of place that feels chiselled, not embellished. A wine that understands restraint as a form of luxury.Frank Phélan
