Jean Charton

In Puligny-Montrachet on Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, Domaine Jean Chartron represents a family tradition dating to 1859, when cooper Jean-Edouard Dupard founded the estate. As mayor, he helped secure the 1873 decision allowing Puligny to add Montrachet to its name. Today, fifth-generation siblings Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron farm about 14.5 hectares in Puligny-Montrachet and neighbouring villages.

Meticulous soil work, careful pruning and precise canopy management shape the vineyards, whose vines average around 40 years. Chardonnay stands at the core of the range, from village and Premier Cru sites to Grand Crus. A defining holding is Clos des Chevaliers, a family monopole within Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru since 1917. The white wines are fermented and matured in 228-litre oak barrels; new oak, lees stirring and élevage are adapted to each appellation and vintage so that site identity, limestone soils and the precision of the Côte de Beaune remain central.
