Jerome Prevost
In Gueux, on the western side of the Montagne de Reims, Jérôme Prévost has shaped Champagne La Closerie into one of the region’s most distinctive grower estates. Its story begins with Les Béguines, a parcel of about two hectares that he took over from his grandmother in 1987 and first bottled under his own name in 1998.The vineyard rests on Thanetian sands, limestone and marine fossils, a profile that differs from the deeper chalk associated with many Champagne sites. Old massal selections are led by Pinot Meunier, with small proportions of other varieties, farmed through low yields, worked soils and close attention to the living balance of the place.
In the cellar, Prévost favours a calm, artisanal rhythm: spontaneous fermentation, long élevage in wood, gravity bottling and an Extra Brut frame. The result is rare Champagne of striking origin, giving Meunier a serious, transparent voice.
