Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon
At Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon in Milly-Lamartine, in Burgundy’s Mâconnais, a southern chapter began in 1999. Dominique Lafon, renowned in Meursault, acquired an estate here and brought the discipline of the Côte de Beaune to a region long underestimated. The vineyards lie in Milly-Lamartine, Bussières, Uchizy, Viré-Clessé and later Pouilly-Fuissé, on limestone, marl and clay-rich soils. Chardonnay is the main language; biodynamic farming, parcel work and exact decisions on ripeness give the Mâconnais a new and lucid definition.
Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon proves that greatness in Burgundy is not locked inside old hierarchies. The wines do not imitate Meursault; they seek southern Bourgogne with serious intent: living soils, long lees contact, precise élevage and a mineral transparency that gives the Mâconnais dignity and future.
