M.Chapoutier Chateauneuf du Pape (Barbe Rac/Croix de Bois) 2001 1,5l

Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Barbe Rac/Croix de Bois represents the domaine’s top expression of old-vine grenache planted on the famous galets roulés of the appellation. Vines around 90 years old yield very small crops of intensely flavoured fruit. The nose reveals ripe strawberry, black cherry and raspberry supported by notes of garrigue, licorice, chocolate and warm spices. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, dense and warmly textured, with powerful yet polished tannins and great concentration. A long, savory, slightly saline finish underlines its class and ageing potential. It shines alongside lamb, game, richly sauced beef and elaborate festive dishes.

Biodynamic farming, living soils and meticulous parcel work define their steep slopes from Hermitage to Saint‑Joseph and Cornas, on granite, rolled stones and clay‑limestone seams....

The grape variety: Grenache

Grenache, also called Garnacha or Garnatxa, produces warm, fruit-driven red wines with raspberry, strawberry, spice, soft tannins and Mediterranean character.

It pairs with lamb, grilled meats, tapas, vegetable stews, barbecue and herb-rich dishes, and is also central to many GSM blends. Grenache
