Clau de Nell

In the Loire Valley, near Ambillou-Château in Anjou, Clau de Nell tells a story of revival on venerable ground. Named after Claude and Nelly, the estate was taken on in 2008 by Anne-Claude Leflaive and Christian Jacques, then patiently reoriented with Sylvain Potin. Old vines, biodynamic conviction and an almost monastic respect for the rhythm of each parcel have defined the domaine ever since.

Clay, flint and tuffeau soils give Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Grolleau and Cabernet Sauvignon an unusually sculpted profile. Hand harvests, native fermentations and restrained élevage leave no room for artifice. What emerges is Anjou with poise and depth: quiet rather than demonstrative, historically rooted, and carried by a tensile energy that feels both earthy and exact. It is a house where patience has become part of the terroir.
