Cantina Contucci Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 1978 0,75l

This Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from historic producer Contucci comes from hillside vineyards around the family palazzo in the old town of Montepulciano. The estate focuses on the local sangiovese clone Prugnolo Gentile, complemented by canaiolo and colorino. Fermentation in steel is followed by extended maturation in large oak casks deep in the medieval cellars. The bouquet offers ripe cherry, red berries, dried herbs, leather and delicate spice. On the palate the wine is silky, harmonious and layered, with polished tannins and vibrant acidity. A long, slightly balsamic finish with tobacco and savoury notes makes it an ideal partner for roasts, game dishes and aged hard cheeses.

Records place the family in local viticulture as early as the 11th century, and later documents (including 1773) tie them to the rise and reputation of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano....

The grape variety: Sangiovese

Sangiovese is Italy's leading red grape, famous in Tuscany. It brings cherry fruit, herbs, savoury spice, lively acidity and firm structure to many classic Italian wines.

It pairs beautifully with tomato pasta, pizza, grilled meat, roast pork, mushrooms and pecorino. A versatile choice for lovers of elegant, food-friendly reds. Sangiovese
