Fetzer Barrel Select Zinfandel comes from selected sites in cool Mendocino County and is matured in oak barrels that add extra spice and structure. The bouquet offers ripe red and dark berries, plum and jammy notes alongside pepper, spice and a subtle gamey touch. On the palate the Zinfandel is ripe and generous, with juicy, slightly jammy fruit, hints of liquorice and gentle toast. Tannins are ripe and slightly chewy, giving the wine backbone without heaviness. A warm, spicy finish with berry compote and savoury spice lingers on. A great partner for barbecue, grilled meats, spicy burgers or mature cheeses.
Up in California’s Mendocino County, near Hopland, the Fetzer story began in 1968 with a simple instinct: healthy vineyards make honest wine. Long before sustainability became a slogan, the estate pushed toward lighter farming, planting its first organic blocks in 1987 and adding Demeter-certified Biodynamic® ranches from 2000 onward....
Zinfandel is best known as a California red grape, producing wines with ripe blackberry, raspberry, plum, spice and smooth tannins. Styles range from juicy and fruit-forward to powerful, oak-aged and old-vine driven.
It is a natural match for barbecue, grilled meats, burgers, pizza and rich tomato dishes. Zinfandel is exciting because it combines easy pleasure with the depth and character of historic vineyards.
