Kollwentz Eichkogel 2023 0,75l

Eichkogel from Weingut Kollwentz is a cuvée of Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt sourced from traditional vineyards on the southern slopes of the Leithagebirge. Warm sites such as Point and Setz meet the cooler Neusatz, giving both ripeness and freshness. After a long maceration the wine matures in small oak barrels, which add structure and subtle spice. On the nose it offers dark berries, cherry, a hint of plum and delicate toasted notes. The palate is powerful, juicy and yet refined, with ripe tannins and vibrant acidity. A long, spicy finish makes Eichkogel a perfect match for grilled beef, lamb or hearty braised dishes.

Kollwentz

On the south-facing slopes of the Leithagebirge above Großhöflein, Weingut Kollwentz Römerhof has long treated estate bottling as a principle: own vineyards, own grapes, own wine. The place is steeped in time—top sites such as Steinzeiler and Tatschler appear in records as early as 1569/1570, and the family’s documented story at the Römerhof reaches back to 1775....

The grape variety: Blaufränkisch

Blaufränkisch is a Central European red grape known for dark cherry, pepper, fresh acidity and structured tannins. It is especially important in Austria and Hungary.

The grape is exciting because it combines elegance with savoury spice. Pair Blaufränkisch with duck, pork, lamb, goulash, mushrooms, sausages and hard cheeses.
