Nicolas Joly Clos de la Bergerie Savannieres 2023 0,75l

This Chenin Blanc comes from Clos de la Bergerie in Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines. Its east-facing vines grow on schist and quartz beneath comparatively deep topsoil. Ripe orchard fruit, floral detail and firm mineral tension define the aromatic profile. The palate has depth and substance, yet freshness and a saline line keep it precise. Vinification in wood with very little new oak allows the character of the site to lead. A little air and a cool rather than cold serving temperature reveal its complexity. It is superb with fish in butter sauce, white meat, goat cheese or Cantal. Find this individual Loire white for special tables at Vinofant.

Nicolas Joly

On the steep schist slopes of Savennières in the Loire Valley, Nicolas Joly shapes one of France’s most distinctive wine stories. At its heart lies the seven-hectare Coulée de Serrant, planted by Cistercian monks in 1130, continuously under vine ever since and now a family monopole with its own AOC. Clos de la Bergerie in Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines and Les Vieux Clos in Savennières complete a collection devoted entirely to Chenin Blanc....

The grape variety: Chenin Blanc

Chenin Blanc is a versatile white grape known for apple, quince, citrus, honeyed notes and vibrant acidity. It can be dry, sparkling, off-dry or sweet, with styles ranging from lean and mineral to rich and textured.

It pairs well with goat cheese, poultry, pork, seafood, spicy dishes and mature cheeses. Chenin Blanc is exciting because it combines freshness, ageing potential and a wide range of expressive styles. Chenin Blanc
