Wenzel Michael Pinot Noir Kalkstein 2023 0,75l

Michael Wenzel Pinot Noir Kalkstein comes from the cool Kleiner Wald vineyard in the hills of Rust, where poor limestone soils shape its character. The vines are grown in single-stake culture, worked by hand and the grapes fermented spontaneously before being bottled unfiltered. On the nose the wine shows strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant alongside cherry, dried fruit, floral hints and a touch of graphite. On the palate the Pinot is juicy yet fleshy, with fresh acidity, fine-grained tannins and a cool, precise aromatic profile. Notes of dark chocolate and subtle herbal spice lead into a long, slightly leafy finish. A complex Austrian Pinot that pairs beautifully with veal, poultry, mushroom dishes or delicately prepared beef.

Oak-free ageing emphasizes pure Pinot fruit, fine herbal spice and a chalky, precise expression.

Wenzel Michael

On the shores of Lake Neusiedl in Rust, Burgenland, Wenzel Michael champions a grape many had written off: Furmint. From a town once famed for Ruster Ausbruch, the family has grown vines for generations, and in the 1980s—under the Iron Curtain’s shadow—they brought historic Furmint material back to Austria to reframe local identity....

The grape variety: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is a refined red grape known for red cherry, raspberry, floral notes, spice and silky tannins. It is most famous in Burgundy but thrives in many cool-climate regions.

It pairs beautifully with duck, roast chicken, mushrooms, salmon, pork and game birds. Its fascination lies in finesse, fragrance and the way it expresses origin.
