Carmes de Rieussec Sauternes 2017 0,375l

Carmes de Rieussec is the second wine of Château Rieussec and comes from the renowned Sauternes appellation in the southern part of Bordeaux. The blend is based on botrytised grapes of classic varieties such as Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, which benefit from the unique microclimate created by the Garonne and Ciron rivers. In the glass the wine shows a pale golden colour and reveals aromas of candied citrus peel, apricot, white peach and honey, supported by floral hints and touches of almonds and pastry. On the palate it is rich and concentrated yet kept in perfect balance by vibrant acidity. The sweetness is finely integrated and leads into a long, gently spicy finish dominated by honeyed notes. Carmes de Rieussec represents an approachable, very drinkable style of Sauternes that is enjoyable in its youth while also offering ageing potential. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses, fruit‑based desserts or as an exciting contrast to spicy Asian cuisine. Served lightly chilled on its own, it becomes a characterful dessert wine for special occasions.

Long barrel ageing embeds the natural sweetness in an elegant Sauternes style carried by freshness.

Carmes de Rieussec

When cold autumn mornings send mist drifting along the Garonne, Sauternes & Barsac become the stage for Carmes de Rieussec—the second wine of Château Rieussec. Parcels spanning the communes of Sauternes and Fargues balance humidity, sunlight and well‑drained gravel‑clay soils, creating the classic conditions for Botrytis cinerea and a harvest carried out in successive, highly selective passes....

The grape variety: Sémillon

Sémillon is a classic white grape of Bordeaux and Sauternes, also famous in Australia's Hunter Valley. It offers citrus, wax, honey, texture and ageing potential.

It pairs with shellfish, roast chicken, creamy sauces, mushrooms, soft cheese, foie gras and fruit desserts. A refined white grape for dry and sweet wines. Sémillon
