Castello di Verrazzano Chianti Classico 1994 3l

Castello di Verrazzano Chianti Classico Riserva comes from hillside vineyards around Greve in Chianti, where limestone soils help Sangiovese to achieve great aromatic intensity. According to the estate the blend is largely Sangiovese with a small share of other local grapes and the wine ages for about two years in oak casks before further bottle ageing. The bouquet shows ripe red fruit, cherry and plum alongside violet, tobacco, pepper and gentle toasted notes. On the palate the Riserva is juicy, precise and elegant, with fine-grained tannins, lively acidity and impressive depth. A long, savoury, slightly mineral finish makes it a superb match for braised meats, game, rich pasta dishes and aged Pecorino.

Castello di Verrazzano

Between Florence and Siena in Tuscany (Toscana), Castello di Verrazzano sits above Greve in Chianti, firmly inside Chianti Classico. Vines run from woodland margins down into the valley; limestone and clay, plus cooler air at elevation, give Sangiovese a savory, herbal profile and a long, saline finish....

The grape variety: Viosinho

Viosinho is a Portuguese white grape associated especially with the Douro. It brings citrus, pear, herbs, mineral freshness and structure to dry white wines and blends.

The variety is exciting because it shows Portugal's native white-wine character. Pair it with fish, shellfish, cod, chicken, salads, goat cheese and herb-led dishes. Viosinho
