M.Chapoutier Crozes Hermitage rouge Les Varonniers 2022 0,75l

M. Chapoutier Crozes-Hermitage Les Varonniers comes from a tiny granite-based parcel of very old syrah vines near Tain-l’Hermitage. With average vine ages over sixty years, yields are naturally low and the wine is matured in barrels and demi-muids to add polish and depth. The bouquet reveals black cherry, blackberry and cassis alongside graphite, pepper, violets and fine toasted notes. On the palate Les Varonniers is dense, powerful and yet silky, with tightly knit ripe tannins and vibrant acidity. A long, mineral and spicy finish places it close in spirit to Hermitage and makes it a superb partner for beef, lamb, game and richly sauced meat dishes.

Matured entirely in barrels and small wooden vessels, with a moderate share of new wood. The ageing supports the dense fruit and gives the wine depth.

M.Chapoutier

In Northern Rhône, the Maison M. Chapoutier has shaped the Côtes du Rhône Nord since 1808—then rewrote its modern chapter in 1990 when Michel Chapoutier took the helm. Biodynamic farming, living soils and meticulous parcel work define their steep slopes from Hermitage to Saint‑Joseph and Cornas, on granite, rolled stones and clay‑limestone seams....

The grape variety: Syrah / Shiraz

Syrah, also called Shiraz, is a dark-skinned red grape known for blackberry, plum, pepper, smoke, spice and firm structure. It ranges from elegant Rhône styles to rich Australian Shiraz.

It pairs with lamb, beef, venison, barbecue, sausages, mushrooms, olives and hard cheese. A bold, savoury red for lovers of depth and spice. Syrah / Shiraz
