Château Lafaurie Peyraguey Sauternes 1cc. 2004 0,75l

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a Premier Grand Cru Classé in Sauternes, perched on a high gravel terrace next to Château d’Yquem. The historic vineyard covers around forty hectares, with a core of some eighteen hectares on especially fine gravel and clay-limestone soils. Sémillon accounts for about 90–93% of the plantings, complemented by Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, and yields are kept very low. Multiple passes of hand-picking select only botrytised berries, concentrating sugars and flavour. The bouquet offers candied citrus, apricot, honey, exotic fruit and acacia blossom. On the palate Lafaurie-Peyraguey is rich and silky yet beautifully balanced, with intense sweetness, bright acidity and a very long, layered Sauternes finish.

Château Lafaurie Peyraguey

Set on the high ground of Bommes above the autumn mists of Sauternes, Château Lafaurie Peyraguey stands as a Premier Grand Cru Classé of 1855, with Château d’Yquem as a neighbour. Medieval stonework still frames the site, and in 1618 Raymond Peyraguey began cultivating vines here, convinced the hilltop could translate light and fog into wine....

The grape variety: Sémillon

Sémillon is a classic white grape of Bordeaux and Sauternes, also famous in Australia's Hunter Valley. It offers citrus, wax, honey, texture and ageing potential.

It pairs with shellfish, roast chicken, creamy sauces, mushrooms, soft cheese, foie gras and fruit desserts. A refined white grape for dry and sweet wines. Sémillon
