Château Marsau Côtes de Francs 1996 0,75l

Château Marsau sits on a windswept plateau in Francs Côtes de Bordeaux and has built a reputation as a Merlot specialist on the Right Bank. Vines are deeply rooted in poor, clay-rich soils that store water and give the wines freshness and tension, even in warm years. The estate is farmed to demanding environmental standards, with elements of biodynamics, and yields are kept low. In the cellar, extraction is gentle and ageing takes place in a mix of barriques and larger vessels. The bouquet shows dark berries, blackberry and cherry with notes of chocolate, hazelnut and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate Marsau is juicy and concentrated yet silky, with fine-grained tannins, savoury salinity and a long, elegant finish.

Its recent momentum has a clear date: at the end of 2017, Anne‑Laurence and Mathieu Chadronnier purchased the estate from the family and turned it into their own, far from Médoc grandeur and close to the ground that matters....
