Kalkundkiesel Weiss from Claus Preisinger is a distinctive white grown on limestone and gravel soils around Gols near Lake Neusiedl. The blend of pinot blanc, grüner veltliner, welschriesling and a dash of muskateller is fermented with native yeasts and bottled with minimal intervention, sometimes slightly cloudy. The bouquet combines lemon, yellow apple and stone fruit with exotic hints, floral tones and gentle spice. On the palate the wine is juicy and taut yet slightly creamy, driven by vibrant acidity and a salty, mineral edge. Its lively, subtly herbal finish makes Kalkundkiesel Weiss an exciting match for vegetable-led dishes, pan-fried fish, Asian-inspired flavours and Mediterranean-style sharing plates.
