Franz Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Honivogl Smaragd 2024 1,5l

Grüner Veltliner Honivogl Smaragd from Franz Hirtzberger is one of the Wachau’s benchmark wines, grown on warm, deep alluvial soils close to the Danube. The bouquet is intensely fragrant, with yellow tropical fruit, honeydew melon and ripe pear, joined by orange zest, blossom honey and a touch of smoky, tobacco-like spice. On the palate the wine is juicy and powerful, showing a silky texture, fine extract sweetness and a highly nuanced, supportive acidity. Saline minerality and great depth give an exceptionally long, multi-layered finish. Despite its opulence, the wine remains precise and beautifully balanced. A site-typical flagship Veltliner for fine fish dishes, veal, poultry or flavourful Asian-inspired cuisine.

The large oak cask underlines the powerful Veltliner structure while preserving mineral elegance.

The grape variety: Grüner Veltliner

Grüner Veltliner is Austria's signature white grape, known for citrus, pear, herbs, white pepper and lively freshness.

It is superb with asparagus, schnitzel, seafood, salads and mildly spicy dishes, making it one of the most versatile white wine grapes.
