Grossi Laue Pinot Gris from Famille Hugel is drawn from prime limestone sites around Riquewihr and shows this grape in a rich, concentrated style. The bouquet opens with ripe yellow fruit, hints of tangerine peel, dried herbs and a touch of cream. On the palate the wine is generous and creamy yet kept in check by vibrant acidity. Layers of spice and gentle smokiness underline the deep, stony character of the terroir. The finish is long, savoury and mouth filling, with echoes of fruit and fine bitterness. This is a serious white that shines with pork, mushroom dishes, mature cheeses or subtly spiced cuisine.
