L’If Saint-Emilion is the small, sought-after estate of Jacques Thienpont, famous for Le Pin, on limestone and clay slopes above Saint-Emilion. The blend, dominated by Merlot with Cabernet Franc, combines depth with striking finesse. The bouquet reveals dark cherry, blackberry, violets, graphite and a touch of cocoa. On the palate it is full and concentrated yet cool and precise, with silky, beautifully polished tannins. Vibrant acidity lends lift and carries the flavours into a long, mineral, chalk-tinged finish. A modern, highly rated Saint-Emilion for special occasions and patient cellaring.
