The Matsui The Peated is a Japanese single malt from the Kurayoshi Distillery made with peat smoked malted barley. Matured in American oak casks, it marries gentle smoke with notes of malt, vanilla and a touch of citrus brightness. On the nose you find light peat smoke, butter biscuits, honey and soft wood. The palate is creamy and smooth, showing fresh peat, honey, baking spices and a subtly sweet malt backbone. A medium length finish brings elegant smoke, a hint of ash and lingering vanilla without ever losing balance. It is a characterful yet approachable peated single malt for fans of smoky Japanese whisky.
