Grüner Veltliner Stab Steinfeder from Weinhofmeisterei Mathias Hirtzberger is the most airy wine in the range and is pressed from the first grapes picked at harvest. The vines grow on stony terraces around Wösendorf, where cool winds from the Danube valley bring plenty of freshness. On the nose it shows melon, lime and grapefruit, joined by green apple, vineyard peach and a hint of fresh herbs. On the palate this Veltliner is slender, springy and straight, with lively acidity and a fine touch of fruit sweetness. Citrus notes, gentle peppery spice and delicate minerality highlight its light yet clearly varietal character. As a Wachau white, Stab is perfect as an aperitif and with salads, light fish dishes or simply on the terrace.
