| Château Ausone is one of Saint-Emilion’s most revered estates, perched on a limestone outcrop above the town. Its tiny vineyard is planted mainly with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, many vines being several decades old and deeply rooted in the rock. The grapes are rigorously selected, vinified parcel by parcel and matured in a high proportion of new oak. The bouquet combines intense black fruit with violet, graphite, smoke and a marked mineral streak. On the palate Ausone is concentrated yet silky, with great intensity, firm ripe tannins and vibrant acidity. This is a powerful, long-lived Saint-Emilion of remarkable complexity and depth. | |
