Clos Saint Martin is a tiny Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé perched on the limestone and clay plateau above the village. The vineyard is planted mainly to merlot with cabernet franc and a small share of cabernet sauvignon at high density. Hand harvesting, rigorous sorting and ageing in a high proportion of new French oak yield a wine of impressive concentration. The bouquet combines ripe red and dark berries, plum and violets with cedar, graphite and sweet spice. On the palate Clos Saint Martin is dense, silky and refined, showing tightly knit ripe tannins and vibrant acidity. A long, perfumed, spicy finish makes it a distinguished partner for lamb, grilled beef and classic French dishes.
