Blaufränkisch Mariental is considered an icon of Burgenland red wine and showcases the full potential of this renowned site near Rust. The bouquet is deep and compact, with aromas of blackberry, sour cherry and dark plum wrapped in fine toasty and spicy notes. On the palate the wine is powerful, sinewy and tightly structured, driven by ripe acidity and firm, well-knit tannins. Limestone and slate soils on the Leithaberg add a cool, mineral backbone and remarkable length. Despite its concentration the wine remains elegant and ageworthy. A superb partner for braised beef, game, lamb or richly flavoured contemporary cuisine.
