Giefing Blaufränkisch Reserve 2015 0,75l

Blaufränkisch Reserve from Weingut Giefing demonstrates the full ageing potential of the sites around Rust. Old vines rooted in limestone and slate soils provide small, highly concentrated berries that are gently fermented and matured for an extended period in oak. The bouquet reveals dark berry compote, black cherry and hints of raisin, coconut and fine wood smoke. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and rich in extract yet beautifully balanced, with silky, mature tannins and juicy, supporting acidity. A long, spicy‑mineral finish makes it a cellar‑worthy partner for game, braised beef or mature hard cheeses.

Barrique ageing gives the mature Blaufränkisch an oak-influenced frame.

Giefing

In the free town of Rust, Weingut Giefing ties past to present with rare ease. On the western shore of Lake Neusiedl, limestone and clay-limestone slopes meet lake air and sunlight. The estate works from a 15th‑century “Freihof” in the UNESCO-protected old centre—old stone, modern intent....

The grape variety: Blaufränkisch

Blaufränkisch is a Central European red grape known for dark cherry, pepper, fresh acidity and structured tannins. It is especially important in Austria and Hungary.

The grape is exciting because it combines elegance with savoury spice. Pair Blaufränkisch with duck, pork, lamb, goulash, mushrooms, sausages and hard cheeses.
