Kollwentz Blaufränkisch Setz 2018 0,75l

Blaufränkisch Setz from Weingut Kollwentz comes from the south-east facing Ried Setz on the Leithagebirge, with limestone-rich, schist-influenced loam and naturally low yields. The nose is dominated by dark cherries, blackberries and a hint of violets, rounded out by herbal notes and fine pepper spice. On the palate this wine is dense, juicy and precise, supported by a fresh, linear structure. The tannins are firm yet ripe and finely woven. Cool, stony minerality adds extra tension and elegance to the Blaufränkisch. A long, spicy finish makes it an excellent match for game, braised beef or hearty regional dishes from around Lake Neusiedl.

Barrique ageing gives Blaufränkisch Setz density and spice without masking its mineral origin.

Kollwentz

On the south-facing slopes of the Leithagebirge above Großhöflein, Weingut Kollwentz Römerhof has long treated estate bottling as a principle: own vineyards, own grapes, own wine. The place is steeped in time—top sites such as Steinzeiler and Tatschler appear in records as early as 1569/1570, and the family’s documented story at the Römerhof reaches back to 1775....

The grape variety: Blaufränkisch

Blaufränkisch is a Central European red grape known for dark cherry, pepper, fresh acidity and structured tannins. It is especially important in Austria and Hungary.

The grape is exciting because it combines elegance with savoury spice. Pair Blaufränkisch with duck, pork, lamb, goulash, mushrooms, sausages and hard cheeses.
