Moric Blaufränkisch Alte Reben Lutzmannsburg 2021 0,75l

Moric Blaufränkisch Alte Reben Lutzmannsburg is sourced from old vines in the Mittelburgenland and is widely regarded as a benchmark for the variety. It pours a deep ruby‑garnet colour. The nose is highly nuanced, showing dark berries, sour cherries and violet alongside cool herbal tones, cracked pepper and stony minerality. On the palate the wine is powerful yet finely etched, with firm, tightly knit tannins and vibrant acidity. The fruit profile remains cool and focused, carried by a long, savoury finish. Layers of spice and mineral notes emerge with air, underlining its complexity. A profound Blaufränkisch that rewards decanting and pairs beautifully with braised beef, game dishes and hearty, earthy cuisine.

Extended ageing in 500-litre casks gives this old-vine Blaufränkisch depth and structure without masking its site-driven minerality.

Moric

On the limestone edge of the Leithaberg, near Großhöflein, Moric rewrote what Burgenland can mean in a glass. Since the early 2000s Roland Velich has been hunting for old-vine parcels with unmistakable origin – from windy slopes on Leithakalk to venerable Blaufränkisch sites in Mittelburgenland, where deep roots and tight spacing naturally keep yields in check....

The grape variety: Blaufränkisch

Blaufränkisch is a Central European red grape known for dark cherry, pepper, fresh acidity and structured tannins. It is especially important in Austria and Hungary.

The grape is exciting because it combines elegance with savoury spice. Pair Blaufränkisch with duck, pork, lamb, goulash, mushrooms, sausages and hard cheeses.
