| Blaufränkisch Mačkovci comes from the cool hills of Goričko in north‑eastern Slovenia and reveals the concentrated, spicy side of this variety. The vines grow on quartz- and sand-rich soils that provide good drainage and a precise mineral backbone. At Marof the work is low‑intervention, with sustainable farming, careful hand harvesting and gentle ageing in wood to keep origin and grape character at the forefront. Aromas of dark berries, cherries, dried herbs and a hint of tobacco shape the nose. On the palate the wine is juicy yet taut, carried by lively acidity, a subtle salty note and fine-grained tannins. It is a distinctive partner for game, braised beef or mature hard cheeses and a striking example of Blaufränkisch from Goričko. | |
