Weingut Hans & Anita Nittnaus Blaufränkisch Gritschenberg 2018 0,75l

Blaufränkisch Gritschenberg from Anita & Hans Nittnaus comes from old vines on the Joiser Gritschenberg, a stony south-east facing slope with calcareous soils. Deep roots and low yields bring small berries and a wine with concentrated, juicy fruit. The bouquet shows dark cherry, blackberry and wild berries alongside violet, dried herbs and a touch of graphite. On the palate the wine is dense and tightly woven, yet remains refined thanks to lively acidity and fine, ripe tannins. Pronounced stony minerality adds freshness, length and a subtle salty edge. A powerful, elegant Leithaberg Blaufränkisch that pairs beautifully with lamb, game, braised beef and savoury mushroom dishes.

Twenty-two months in 500-litre casks give the Blaufränkisch depth and support its spicy, mineral structure.

Weingut Hans & Anita Nittnaus

In Gols by Lake Neusiedl, where Pannonian warmth is tempered by steady breezes, Weingut Hans & Anita Nittnaus has shaped Burgenland red wine with rare consistency. The family’s roots reach back to 1684; when Hans (“John”) and Anita took over in 1985, they pushed the estate toward site-driven ambition and careful detail....

The grape variety: Blaufränkisch

Blaufränkisch is a Central European red grape known for dark cherry, pepper, fresh acidity and structured tannins. It is especially important in Austria and Hungary.

The grape is exciting because it combines elegance with savoury spice. Pair Blaufränkisch with duck, pork, lamb, goulash, mushrooms, sausages and hard cheeses.
