Prieler Merlot Schützner Stein 2020 1,5l

Merlot Schützner Stein from Prieler is grown on a stony limestone hill at the edge of the Leitha range near Schützen am Gebirge. The meagre, rocky soils and cool breezes yield small, highly concentrated berries. The nose opens with dark cherry, blackberry and stewed plum, layered with notes of tobacco, cocoa and wild herbs. On the palate the wine is powerful yet cool in expression, with dense but fine tannins and invigorating freshness. Ageing in barrique adds gentle toast and a smoky nuance while keeping the fruit at centre stage. A serious Merlot to pair with braised beef, game dishes or richly spiced vegetarian cuisine.

After stainless steel fermentation, the Merlot matures for around 20 months in barriques, gaining density, spice and structure.

Prieler

On the western side of Lake Neusiedl, in Schützen am Gebirge, Prieler shapes the Leithaberg voice of Burgenland: limestone and mica‑schist soils, constant breezes and Pannonian warmth combine for tension rather than weight....
