| Yjar is a distinctive Rioja created by Telmo Rodriguez from old vines in high altitude parcels at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño. The field blend is dominated by Tempranillo with classic local varieties and ages for a long period in large foudres and selected barrels. On the nose it shows pure red and dark berry fruit with violets, Mediterranean herbs, white pepper and subtle oak spice. The palate is silky yet powerful, combining cool, focused fruit with chalky minerality and very fine tannins. The structure is precise and juicy, giving the wine tension and depth while remaining remarkably elegant. The long, layered finish with graphite, dried flowers and savoury notes makes Yjar a benchmark Rioja for refined cuisine and cellaring. | |
