Werner Achs

Close to Lake Neusiedl in Gols, Werner Achs has built a reputation on radical focus: a tiny range, maximum intent. Since his late‑1990s beginnings, the estate has pursued a strict “less is more”, rooted in parcels on Goldberg and Altenberg and in red varieties that belong here—Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent.

The work is uncompromising: severe selection, measured extraction, and élevage in used barriques until tannin and frame settle into harmony. X.U.R distils the energy of indigenous grapes into a modern cuvée; Goldberg reads like a single‑site statement of Zweigelt. In outstanding vintages, a Reserve appears only in minute quantities.

What remains is Burgenland rendered in clean lines—structured and precise, driven by origin and consistency rather than noise. In the bottle.
