Xur is the iconic cuvée of Werner Achs and blends Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, St. Laurent and a touch of Merlot from top sites around Gols. The grapes are rigorously selected and the wine is matured in French oak barrels, some with pronounced toasting. On the nose it reveals dark berries, sour cherry and blackberry together with fine herbal spice, hints of liquorice and clove and subtle toast. On the palate Xur is concentrated and dense, with a powerful yet elegant structure, ripe tannins and lively acidity. The flavours linger, combining red and dark fruit with spicy and mineral nuances. A complex flagship red from Neusiedlersee that pairs beautifully with game, braised beef or hearty dishes of modern fine dining.
