| Poggio ai Merli is Castellare di Castellina’s pure Merlot and one of the estate’s most characterful Toscana IGT wines. Vines in a particularly well-exposed vineyard and maturation in barriques give the wine depth and impressive ageing capacity. In the glass it displays a deep ruby colour with violet hues; the nose reveals dark cherry, blackberry and plum together with violets, cocoa, fine oak and spice. On the palate Poggio ai Merli is powerful, silky and layered, with ripe tannins, lively acidity and a very long, elegant finish. It is excellent with game, slow-cooked meat dishes, richly flavoured pasta or simply enjoyed on its own as a meditative red. | |
