Château du Retout Haut Médoc 2016 0,75l

Château du Retout is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur estate in the Haut-Médoc, set on one of the highest points of Cussac-Fort-Médoc. Its contiguous vineyards rest on well-drained gravel soils over clay and limestone and are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a significant share of Petit Verdot. Careful picking and ageing in barriques give the wine structure and depth. The bouquet reveals blackcurrant, dark cherry and violet with spicy and slightly mineral undertones. On the palate Château du Retout is full-bodied and dense yet refined, with ripe, assertive tannins and a long, characterful finish.

Twelve months in French oak shape the powerful Cabernet structure, adding spice and depth.

Château du Retout

In the Médoc, close to Cussac‑Fort‑Médoc, Château du Retout is anchored by a striking historical marker: a 13th‑century mill at the estate’s highest point. After phylloxera, war and inheritance splits left vineyards abandoned, the Kopp family stepped in during the 1950s, merging holdings and patiently rebuilding the property plot by plot....

The grape variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is a world-famous red grape producing dark, structured wines with cassis, blackberry, cedar, firm tannins and ageing potential.

The variety is exciting because it combines power with recognisable character. Pair Cabernet Sauvignon with steak, roast beef, lamb, venison, burgers, mushrooms and hard cheeses. Cabernet Sauvignon
