Château Lafon-Rochet is a Fourth Growth estate in Saint-Estèphe with an almost single-block vineyard of just over forty hectares between Cos d’Estournel and Lafite. Its vines are rooted in a complex mix of gravel, clay, sand, limestone and marl, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The average vine age of around 35 to 40 years delivers naturally concentrated, flavour-packed fruit. Lafon-Rochet increasingly relies on organic and biodynamic farming, vinifies plot by plot and ages the wine for about sixteen to eighteen months in French oak barrels. The bouquet shows cassis, blackberry and plum with tobacco, cedar and a cool, stony edge. On the palate this Saint-Estèphe is powerful yet silky, with firm ripe tannins, bright acidity and a long finish that marries classic structure to modern precision.
Barrique ageing gives the wine fine structure and highlights its elegant, fruit-driven style.
