Dragon de Quintus, the second wine of Château Quintus in Saint-Émilion, captures the estate’s limestone elegance in a more approachable style. The blend is built around Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose shows deep red fruit, plum and cassis intertwined with spice, fine oak and a hint of liquorice. On the palate the wine is wide and fleshy yet refined, with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a creamy texture. The finish is long and fruity with well-judged wood. Dragon de Quintus is a characterful Saint-Émilion that drinks beautifully in its youth but will also age gracefully for several years.
Ageing with 30% new barriques adds a fine, subtle oak note to the red fruit.
