Jaunegg Grauburgunder Knily 2022 0,75l

This Grauburgunder from the Knily site shows how serious and distinctive Pinot Gris can be in South Styria. The grapes are hand harvested, fermented spontaneously and matured for a long time on fine lees in used wooden casks. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it keeps a direct link to place and cellar work. The aroma brings candied orange peel, preserved pear, blossom honey, lemon balm and a cool mineral note. On the palate it is dry, structured and savoury, with fine grip, lively acidity and a salty finish. It pairs beautifully with roast poultry, mushroom dishes, richer fish and mature cheese. At Vinofant it is an engaging choice for drinkers who appreciate expressive natural wine.

Jaunegg

On the Eichberg in Südsteiermark, Jaunegg represents a quiet, exacting vision of Styrian wine. Founded in 1975 by Johann and Johanna, the family estate has been shaped since 2003 by Daniel Jaunegg, whose work places origin, patience and trust in the vineyards at the centre. The vines grow near Leutschach at around 550 metres above sea level, where cool influences from the Koralpe slow the ripening season and preserve a finely drawn sense of place....

The grape variety: Pinot Gris

Grauburgunder, Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are names for the same versatile Pinot grape. Typical aromas include pear, apple, citrus, melon, nuts and gentle spice.

It pairs with fish, seafood, poultry, asparagus, mushrooms, creamy pasta and mild cheeses, ranging from crisp aperitif styles to richer food wines.
