Les Forts de Latour is the renowned second wine of Château Latour and captures the depth and power of this Pauillac estate. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, with a high proportion of Merlot and a small touch of Petit Verdot. The bouquet combines cassis, blue and black berries with cedar, cigar box, graphite and savoury herbs. On the palate the wine is medium to full-bodied, dense yet cool and focused, with firm, chalky tannins. The ripe fruit is wrapped in vibrant acidity, giving precision and energy. A long, structured finish with hints of tobacco, earth and spice underlines its ageing potential and makes it a superb match for roast beef, game and mature cheeses.
Shaped by the Gironde’s presence, Les Forts de Latour in Pauillac is drawn from plots around Château Latour’s famed “Enclos”, and has carried its name since 1966, borrowed from an historic parcel. As the second wine of a First Growth in the 1855 classification, it is less about concession than about precision in selection....
