At the foot of Monte Yerga, in Rioja, Palacios Remondo in Alfaro turns the eastern edge of the region into a study of Garnacha and place.Finca La Montesa sits around 550 metres, on silty alluvial soils with a calcareous layer that keeps the ground cooler than the semi‑arid Mediterranean climate suggests. Thoughtful canopy work, hand picking and careful sorting aim for balance; gentle extraction and long macerations privilege texture and line over sheer weight.
Built as a modern bodega in 1948 on a family tradition traced back centuries, the estate works parcel by parcel, fermenting with precision and patiently ageing across concrete, large oak vessels and barriques. The ambition is simple: Rioja Oriental as an origin defined by altitude, light and Garnacha, not by formula.
