Michael Wenzel Merlot originates from the rolling hills around Rust on the western shore of Lake Neusiedl and is made in a low-intervention style. On the nose it opens with stewed plums, blackberries and blueberry muffins, joined by notes of vanilla, cocoa and gentle spice. On the palate the Merlot is full-bodied and juicy, with soft, ripe tannins and a dense core of fruit. Despite its richness the wine remains elegant and well structured, carried by fresh acidity and a moreish flow. The finish lingers with dark berries, sweet spice and a hint of chocolate. A characterful red from Rust that works just as well with burgers and barbecue as with braised dishes, roasted vegetables or chocolate desserts.

Stainless steel tank ageing keeps the Merlot lively and fresh, with pure dark fruit and compact structure.
