Gerhard Markowitsch M 1 2021 1,5l

M1 is Gerhard Markowitsch’s iconic flagship cuvée, based on Merlot and Blaufränkisch from the warm single vineyard Aubühl with chalky, sandy loam soils. The bouquet opens with dark berries, plum and cassis, joined by hints of cocoa, tobacco and fine toasted notes from maturation in small oak barrels. On the palate the wine is powerful and multi‑layered, with dense, ripe tannins and a precise acidity that keeps everything in balance. The texture is silky and the finish long, with a touch of cool minerality. A profound red for special occasions, ideal with braised dishes, game or premium cuts of beef.

Twenty-four months in French barriques and large oak casks gives the magnum format additional depth, structure and maturity.

Gerhard Markowitsch

At the edge of the Vienna Basin, in Göttlesbrunn, Gerhard Markowitsch lets Carnuntum set the tempo. Loess, gravel and calcareous streaks shape wines that feel rooted rather than explained. The estate farms organically and works with named single vineyards—Rosenberg, Kirchweingarten or Schüttenberg, some with 1ÖTW status—treated as precise coordinates of place....

The grape variety: Merlot

Merlot is a famous red grape known for plum, black cherry, soft tannins and a smooth, rounded palate. It is central to Bordeaux and widely planted worldwide.

Its approachable structure makes it excellent with roast meats, mushrooms, tomato pasta, burgers, lamb and mild cheeses.
