Ried Rosenberg 1ÖTW is one of the great classics of Weingut Gerhard Markowitsch. This cuvée of Zweigelt, Merlot and Blaufränkisch comes from warm, limestone‑rich hillside vineyards and shows a deep garnet colour in the glass. The bouquet is packed with dark berries, cassis, juniper and clove, supported by fine oak and subtle mineral notes. On the palate the wine is dense, juicy and tightly woven, with ripe, elegant tannins and impressive length. A characterful red with excellent ageing potential, perfect alongside braised meats, game dishes or matured hard cheeses.
At the edge of the Vienna Basin, in Göttlesbrunn, Gerhard Markowitsch lets Carnuntum set the tempo. Loess, gravel and calcareous streaks shape wines that feel rooted rather than explained. The estate farms organically and works with named single vineyards—Rosenberg, Kirchweingarten or Schüttenberg, some with 1ÖTW status—treated as precise coordinates of place....

The grape variety: Zweigelt
Zweigelt is Austria''s leading red grape, producing cherry-scented wines with soft tannins, fresh acidity and gentle spice. It is a crossing of Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent.
The variety is appealing because it is juicy, versatile and food-friendly. Pair Zweigelt with roast chicken, pork, schnitzel, burgers, mushrooms and mild cheeses.
